Arlington, Virginia is a wonderful city in which to live in or to visit. In fact, Niche.com recently named Arlington as the “Best City to Live in America”. Approximately 240,000 residents live in Arlington and many more people visit the area all throughout the year. As you may have guessed, there are many attractions in the area. Arlington is located just across the Potomac River from our nation’s capital, Washington, DC. Of course, Washington, DC has a wealth of places to explore, but you may be surprised to learn all about the places to explore in Arlington, too.

One of the main attractions is the Arlington National Cemetery. People from all over the world come to Arlington National Cemetery, in order to see first-hand this beautiful and sacred place. First established during the American Civil War period, the cemetery is comprised of over 600 acres. Visitors can view the Changing of the Guard ceremony while at Arlington National Cemetery. You can also visit the gravesite of U.S. President John F. Kennedy, Robert F. Kennedy, or see the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, too. Many people come to Arlington National Cemetery to locate the gravesite of relatives or people they knew, as well. Arlington National Cemetery is a remarkable place that many people enjoy every year.

There are other memorials in Arlington that beckon for people to visit all throughout the year. The U.S. Marine Corps War Memorial, also referred to as the Iwo Jima Memorial, can be found in Arlington. Another memorial that you may want to visit is the Pentagon Memorial, which pays tribute to people that were killed on the grounds of the Pentagon on September 11, 2001. Both memorials are unique and are certainly a memorable way to spend an afternoon.

If you are looking for a place to enjoy being outside, then a trip to Theodore Roosevelt Island Park is a must. This beautiful, picturesque park is comprised of over 88 acres and is located along the banks of the Potomac River. Operated by the U.S. National Park Service, the park offers plenty of green spaces to enjoy, canoeing opportunities, walking trails, enjoyable scenic views of the river and of Washington, DC, and so much more. The Roosevelt park is a unique place that welcomes people of all ages and all during the year, too.

If you are looking for something to do indoors, then perhaps shopping may be the activity for you. Arlington is dotted with some wonderful shopping destinations, including the Village of Shirlington or the Ballston Quarter. The Village of Shirlington offers a nice place to stroll through a variety of stores while also finding several eateries to enjoy and everyday services, too. Ballston Quarter also offers a great place to find a variety of shops, dining destinations, and maybe even some live entertainment, as well.

Whether you are a resident or a visitor in the Arlington area, you are sure to find a vast array of fun and engaging activities to do anytime of the year throughout the city. The neighboring communities also offer quite a lot to see, which may also be of interest to you. Arlington is a nice, safe place for people of all ages to enjoy and explore.
